  • Saima Shaik, LPC

    Licensed Professional Counselor

    Saima is a Licensed Professional Counselor that specializes in the emerging adult and adult population. She primarily works with individuals struggling with stress management, anxiety, self-esteem issues, and depression. She received her M.S in Clinical Psychology from Benedictine University. Saima has experience working with the emerging adult population from her internship at the University Counseling Center. She is passionate about addressing concerns with life transitions, intergenerational trauma, and building autonomy.

     

    She currently works for a private practice called Shift Counseling, PC and volunteers for non-profit organizations that aim to reduce the stigma towards mental health in the Muslim community. She enjoys collaborating with mosques and other non-profits to organize mental health events. She has facilitated support groups for adolescents and college students through a non-profit organization called Project Taqwa. Saima was born and raised in Chicago and would like to continue to give back to the Chicago community through outreach and spreading mental health awareness.

     

    Saima believes that therapy can only be effective if the client and clinician have rapport. Therapy is a collaborative effort between the client and clinician, which requires both parties to be authentic with each other. Her theoretical orientation consists of Cognitive-Behavioral, Dialectical-Behavioral, Acceptance-Commitment, and Person-Centered therapy. Saima aims to empower her clients and offer the validation they may need during this time of uncertainty
