        • Rebecca Nelson, PhD, ADHD-CCSP

Licensed Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychologist

I'm a Korean American licensed clinical child and adolescent psychologist who appreciates the need for culturally diverse and competent clinical care. I specialize in developmental assessment and psychodiagnostics with neurodevelopmentally at-risk infants to adolescents. For 15+ years I’ve been part of NorthShore University Health System’s Medical Group, Deparment of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatology. I’m a certified ADHD Certified Clinical Service Provider. Please see my practice areas below.

I also have expertise in adoption. For 25+ years I have worked with families with children adopted domestically and internationally (transracial and transnational) providing developmental and psychodiagnostic assessments, parent and professional consultation, and community liaison and education. This includes developing and facilitating adoptive family workshop curricula, presenting at conferences on child development, adoptee identity development, and the sequelae of early institutionalization. I’m also personally touched by adoption as an adoptee, which provides added personal and unique understanding of the developmental and psychological complexities that can challenge adoptees, their families, and communities.

As a pediatric mental health advocate I sometimes participate in media to inform larger audiences on relevant topics. Some include the following: Illinois Pediatrician, American Medical News, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun Times, NPR Reset, WGN-TV, WGN-9, CBS local WBBM News Radio, Chicago Health Online, Make It Better magazine, Adoption Learning Partners, and Adoptive Families Magazine.
