Irene Liem, LPC
Licensed Professional Counselor
As a licensed professional counselor in Illinois, my life mission is to help individuals and couples grow and achieve their fullest potential. Since a young age, I have found myself drawn to listening to and helping others. I have developed an integrative approach to working with clients on various issues through my years of clinical training. Every client is unique, and I tailor my approach to meet the particular needs of every client. You will find a supportive and caring environment that allows you to explore your emotions, experiences, and challenges during our sessions together. I have experience serving the elderly, young adults, and married couples with presenting concerns such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, personality disorders, and relational difficulties.
I am particularly interested in working with individuals with an Asian cultural background, given my bilingual expertise. I grew up in Hong Kong, where the East meets the West. I have since spent more than 25 years in the U.S., receiving higher education from Christian colleges. Reflecting on my own cultural identity, I see a unique theme of how my Asian upbringing blends with my academic and vocational training in the U.S. My acculturation journey to the U.S. culture and clinical training has inspired a commitment to delivering culturally informed psychological services.
I initially received my undergraduate degree in Accountancy from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. After spending 20 years in the business field, I realized that my passion is mental health. Despite having a successful career in accounting, I decided to pursue a second career in mental health. I received my graduate-level training in the mental health counseling program at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. I am also a doctoral candidate for the Clinical Psychology program at Wheaton College.
