Apollonia Wenting Kang, LCPC, LMHC, Ed.M
Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Master of Education
I have a two-fold mission: helping clients build a healthy relationship with themselves and build healthy relationships with others. For individual clients, I hope to help them sit with their pain, and orient them toward a meaningful live guided by value-driven actions. For couples, I specialize in helping them manage their emotions, identify needs and wishes, tolerate talking about difficult topics without getting bent out of shape, learn different ways of reacting to disappointment, and repair broken trust after infidelity.
I work from an intersectional framework. As a first-generation Asian immigrant, I recognize the nuances and complexity of intersecting identities. I enjoy connecting with individuals from a variety of backgrounds, and couples who are navigating differences in race, culture, immigration status, nationality, socioeconomic status, etc.
I received my undergraduate degree in Psychology and Philosophy from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and my graduate training in mental health counseling from Columbia University. While in New York City, I worked at a community mental health center, where I offered psychotherapy services to diverse underprivileged populations. Since moving to Chicago two years ago, I have been working at a group practice, specializing in relational issues. I have pursued trainings in the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy. I tailor my approach to meet the unique needs of every client.
