  • Alexa Thompson, ALMFT

Associate Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

I’m Alexa Thompson, and I’m a Marriage and Family Therapist with advanced training in treating relational and intimacy-related concerns. I am passionate about working with individuals and couples looking to cultivate a deeper connection with themselves and each other. I believe that people deserve a safe space to discuss sex and explore what brings them pleasure. While my clinical focus in on sex therapy, I have experience working with diverse populations treating relational conflict, anxiety, grief, sexual intimacy, perfectionism, body image issues, racial identity, and trauma. I received my master’s degree from Northwestern University in Marriage and Family Therapy and am a member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and the American Association for Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT).

As a systemic therapist, I take into consideration the various contexts and systems my clients exist within. As an individual who identifies as biracial and second generation Asian American, I also draw on my own experiences in holding the complexity of our identities. I am an integrative therapist who draws upon a variety of models including emotionally focused therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches while always maintaining a social justice lens. I consider my approach to be compassionate and direct with an emphasis on collaboration and feedback to ensure clients are getting their goals and needs met throughout treatment. I believe that change happens at the intersection of insight and choice and work to help clients identify their strengths and look for patterns that may no longer be serving them while helping them have new experiences. I hope to empower each of my clients throughout their healing journey, leaving them with a renewed sense of agency and hope.
